Having read it, I wonder how many American born citzen could truthfully take the oath today.

Yes, before taking the nine+ hour drive we talked it over and made sure she understood it and agreed to it. After all, we take serious anything that end with "so help me God."
As far as the words, how many fifteen year olds today know words like abjure, potentate, and hereunto? OK, so one of mine does, but she is a writer.
